Maples Sweep North Farmington
It was a banner night for Seaholm athletics this Tuesday, as the Maples showcased depth, talent, and Kudos-worthy performances across the board. From a dramatic finish on the diamond to a clinical display on the pitch, the energy at the stadium was electric.
A Winning Atmosphere
The evening kicked off with a statement from our JV Soccer squad, who set the tone early with a commanding 8-0 victory over the North Farmington Raiders.
While the JV match wrapped up, fans were treated to a “bonus” thrill from the adjacent baseball diamond. In a nail-biting extra-innings battle, Seaholm’s Casey Goetz delivered the heroics, driving in the winning run to secure a hard-fought win over North Farmington. That momentum carried straight into the Varsity soccer matchup.
Varsity Dominance
Under the leadership of Coach Manny Rodrigues, the Varsity girls took the field looking to improve their 5-2-3 record. They did more than just improve it; they put on a masterclass in offensive pressure and defensive resilience.
The scoring opened at the 32:19 mark of the first half when Amelia Attia found the back of the net. However, the early lead stayed intact thanks to the phenomenal play of goalie Laila Feldman. Feldman was a wall in the first half, making a spectacular diving save to her right at 27:56, followed shortly by a massive close-range stop at 19:05 that drew cheers from the home crowd.
With the defense locked down, the offense ignited:
- Ava Zimmer doubled the lead with a powerful, clinical strike into the top left corner.
- Lucy Roberts and Mary Blythe Teitsma added goals in quick succession.
- Emma Drouillard capped off the first-half scoring frenzy, leaving the Maples in total control.
Closing the Deal
The second half saw no let-up from Seaholm. Cadyn Geller extended the lead following a perfectly placed assist from Zimmer. Zimmer then added another “missile” to her nightly tally, proving nearly impossible for the Raider defense to contain.
The game reached its conclusion with six minutes remaining as Mary Blythe Teitsma netted her second goal of the night, ending the match via the mercy rule and cementing a dominant OAA League win.
What’s Next?
The Maples won’t have long to celebrate this victory. We look forward to seeing everyone back in the stands this Thursday as we host our cross-town rivals, the Groves Falcons. Let’s keep this momentum going!
Go Maples!
