Maples Rain Supreme: Varsity Soccer Dominates Summit in 8-0 Rout

The atmosphere at Maple Field on Friday night was nothing short of cinematic. Despite a steady, light rain, the energy on the pitch was electric, framed by the glowing lights of the varsity baseball game unfolding just beyond the sidelines. It was a night for Birmingham pride, and the Maples delivered a masterclass, dismantling Summit in an 8-0 shutout victory.

The dominant performance capped off a perfect sweep for the program, following a commanding 4-0 victory by the JV squad earlier in the evening.

A Tactical Start

The first half saw the Maples controlling the tempo and testing Summit keeper Maria Ranville early and often. While Summit’s defense held firm for the first twenty minutes, the deadlock was finally broken at the 19:47 mark when Lindsey Bakken found the back of the net to put Seaholm up 1-0.

The Maples didn’t let up. With 11:18 remaining in the half, Addy Kitzman powered through for a second goal, sending Seaholm into the locker room with a comfortable 2-0 lead and all the momentum.

The Floodgates Open

If the first half was about control, the second half was about a scoring clinic. Just four minutes into the period, Bakken scored her second of the night—a beautiful header off a perfectly placed assist from Emma Drouillard. Less than a minute later, Addy Kitzman mirrored the feat, netting her second goal of the game thanks to a quick feed from Bakken.

The Maples’ aerial assault continued at the 30:07 mark when Lucy Roberts rose above the crowd to head home a corner kick delivered by Drouillard. Roberts wasn’t finished, however; she struck again with under twenty minutes left in the game, assisted by Ava Zimmer, to extend the lead to 6-0.

Closing the Show

The final ten minutes belonged to Mary Blythe Teitsma. Assisted by Maggie Roble, Teitsma netted her first goal at the 15:21 mark. She then put the finishing touches on the victory with a final strike in the closing minute, bringing the total to 8-0.  Tonight marked Roble’s return from injury which added to the significance for the Maples and head coach Manuel Rodrigues.

While the offense grabbed the headlines, the Seaholm defense was impenetrable. Keeper Laila Feldman stood tall in the rain, orchestrating the backline and securing a well-earned shutout. Her composure between the posts ensured that Summit never found a rhythm, keeping the sheet clean for the full 80 minutes.

Looking Ahead

With this victory, the Maples move to a solid 4-2-3 record on the season. They will look to carry this offensive explosion on the road as they travel to take on Royal Oak this Tuesday, April 28.

Final Score: Seaholm 8, Summit 0.

Stat Leaders: Lindsey Bakken (2G, 1A), Addy Kitzman (2G), Lucy Roberts (2G), Mary Blythe Teitsma (2G)
