Maples Capture District Championship in Dominant Fashion
The Seaholm Maples continued their impressive run Saturday, capturing the District Championship with a commanding 17-0 victory over Berkley.
Seaholm wasted little time taking control, scoring three runs in the opening inning before erupting for seven more in the third. Leah Stanford highlighted the offensive outburst with a two-run home run, while Lila Nursey and Natalie Tocco each collected two hits and drove in key runs. Lois Cortez added three RBIs as the Maples pounded out 12 hits.
In the circle, Nursey was dominant, striking out nine batters over three scoreless innings. Adele Bush followed with two shutout innings in relief as Seaholm completed another flawless defensive performance.
The district title capped a remarkable day for the Maples, who did not allow a single run in either district game and earned mercy-rule victories in both contests. Seaholm’s offense was relentless throughout the tournament, while its pitching staff and defense proved equally dominant.
With the championship secured, the Maples now advance to Regional play and will face Walled Lake Northern on Saturday at Milford High School, with a trip to the state quarterfinals on the line.
