Groves Musicians Receive High Marks at MSBOA

The weekend before last, members of the Groves HS Orchestra program participated in the Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association’s (MSBOA) District Solo & Ensemble Festival held at Novi HS. This is an event where students compete either as a soloist, or in a small ensemble, against set criteria for a judge.

There are five possible scores.  The top two are: Division 1 = Excellent and Division II = Good.  

21 Groves performances earned the highest possible score – Division I:

  • Elijah Daniels & Juliet Berkaw– viola & cello duet
  • Addelyn Bishop– violin solo
  • Isabella Cocroft– cello solo
  • Claire DeJager– violin solo
  • Kendall Dorfman– violin solo
  • Lauren Goins– cello solo
  • Collin Gregory & Ta’Laya Stallings– violin duet
  • Raegan Haenggi & Quinn VanderWeele– cello duet
  • Isla Hepburn– cello solo
  • Isla Hepburn & Ariana Kadlecviolin & cello duet
  • Kendall Dorfman & Ariana Kadlec– violin duet
  • Ariana Kadlec– violin solo
  • Safiya Mahmood– violin solo
  • Charlisa Penzak– piano solo
  • Isla Hepburn & Evelyn Quinn– cello duet
  • Linas Schafer– violin solo
  • Ta’Laya Stallings– violin solo
  • Kendall Dorfman & Quinn VanderWeele violin & cello duet
  • George Wilde– violin solo
  • Alexandra Wright– violin solo

Division II scores were achieved in these performances:

  • Poppy Dimmer– cello solo
  • Sarah Jones– viola solo

Our students worked very hard in preparation with the goal of meeting their individual potential for this event. They did a fantastic job and performed extremely well! The Groves Orchestra program had 23 entries into the competition.  Each one earned a Division I or II rating. Olivia Zang and Paul Shawver are very proud of our hard-working and talented students!
