Sophomore Kendal Wilson’s Award Winning Paintings

BIRMINGHAM, MI – Kendall Wilson, a sophomore at Groves High School, is making waves in the art world with her stunning watercolor paintings. Known for her breathtaking depictions of sunsets over water, the 15-year-old artist has already earned a reputation for her skillful use of vibrant hues and delicate brushwork in pencil drawing, oil painting, and ceramics. However, it’s her watercolors that have recently garnered significant acclaim.
Wilson’s latest piece, Ripples at Sunset, took first place at the Michigan Young Artists Showcase, held last month in Detroit. The painting, which captures the serene beauty of a lake at dusk with shimmering reflections, was praised for its emotional depth and technical precision. Judges noted her ability to “blend colors seamlessly, evoking a sense of calm and wonder.”
In addition to her top prize, Wilson also received the Emerging Talent Award at the Oakland County Art Fair and a Judges’ Choice nod at the Midwest Watercolor Society’s annual exhibition. “I’m so honored,” Wilson said. “Painting sunsets feels like capturing a fleeting moment, and I’m thrilled to share that with others.”
Her art teacher, Ms. Laura Bennett, described Wilson as a dedicated student with a natural gift. “Kendall’s work shows a maturity beyond her years,” Bennett said. “Her ability to translate light and water into such vivid imagery is truly special.”
Wilson’s pieces will be displayed at the Birmingham Community Art Center through the end of the month, where locals can view her award-winning Ripples at Sunset and other works. The young artist plans to continue honing her craft, with dreams of exhibiting her art nationally one day.

I have seen these works in person. The pictures online don’t do them justice. If you get a chance, see them at the Community Art Center. You will be amazed. Congratulations Kendall.
