Birmingham Claims OAA Tournament Championship in High-Scoring Thriller
BIRMINGHAM, MI – In a game that lived up to its championship billing, the Birmingham United Bulldogs showcased an explosive offense and a resilient defense to win the OAA Red Division Tournament at Seaholm High School. Facing off against regular-season champions Lake Orion, Birmingham redeemed an early-season loss with a gritty performance that highlighted the elite talent across both Groves and Seaholm High Schools.
Under the guidance of first-year head coach and Seaholm alumnus Adam Kadro, the Bulldogs utilized a relentless man-up offense and a high-pressure ride to dismantle the Dragons early, ultimately holding off a late-game surge to hoist the trophy on their home turf.
Explosive Opening Act
The Bulldogs set the tone in the first quarter, responding to an early Lake Orion goal with a scoring barrage. James Liebler ignited the offense with a man-up goal assisted by Nick Holcomb, followed quickly by strikes from Will Forberg and Brody Feldmaier.
Birmingham’s ability to capitalize on Lake Orion penalties proved to be the difference-maker. By the end of the first frame, the Bulldogs had built a commanding lead, punctuated by three goals from Ryan McCardle and consistent facilitation from Caleb Garrett.
Holcomb Leads Defensive Masterclass
While the scoreboard lit up, the story of the night was the versatility of Nick Holcomb. After starting the game at attack, Holcomb transitioned to the defensive end, where he became a one-man wrecking crew. His takeaway checks and ability to pick off Dragon passes disrupted Lake Orion’s rhythm at crucial moments.
Behind the defense, goalie Conrad Swanson stood tall, weathering a mid-game comeback attempt by Lake Orion’s Giacolone to keep the Bulldogs in front.
Finishing Strong
The second quarter saw the lead extend further with goals from Dylan Brand, Noah Bigelman, and Jake Coyle. Despite a spirited second-half push from the Dragons, Birmingham’s stars stepped up when it mattered most. Brody Feldmaier and Noah Bigelman connected for a key goal in the third quarter to halt Lake Orion’s momentum, and Feldmaier added a final insurance goal in the fourth to seal the victory.
Championship Kudos
A massive Kudos goes out to the entire Birmingham United roster for their dedication and teamwork. Special recognition is deserved for:
- The Offense: For their precision in man-up situations and laser-like shooting.
- Nick Holcomb: For his elite field vision on both ends.
- Coach Adam Kadro: For a successful championship return to his alma mater.
This victory cements Birmingham United as a premier force in the OAA Red Division. As the tournament continues this weekend at Seaholm, the Bulldogs can celebrate a hard-earned title built on Birmingham pride.
Final Score: Birmingham United Victors over Lake Orion 14-13
