Notifications on our system keep you updated on the success of your school. You can access them from the bell in the top right corner of any page – or via email. For more information about reading notifications, see our related document: Notifications
Notification Settings Overview #
Our system provides notifications for everything from New Kudos to Account Settings – along with the ability to customize what type of notifications you receive. Notifications are delivered via web (on the site) or via email. (Push notifications are coming later this year with the release of the mobile app).
Notification settings provide you with full control over the types of notifications you receive. You can also determine which types are sent to to each available medium (currently web or email). There are two pre-requisites for notifications.
- You must be a logged-in user of schoolkudos.
- To receive notifications of new Kudos, you must be a member of a school on our system. See the related document My Schools.
Membership and Notification Basics #
- Membership (joining) a school or district on our system ensures that those Kudos will show up in your feed.
- Notifications are turned on by default for any school you have joined. They let you know when a new Kudos is published.
- Common use cases are at the bottom of this document.
- Notification settings have two main components – Subscriptions and Preferences.
Notification Preferences #
This section allows you to customize how more than a dozen notifications are handled for your account. This is where you determine both which types of notifications you receive – and where you want them to go (email and/or web).
- Mobile View – Select the menu (3 lines). Desktop View – Select your profile (top right corner).
- Select Notification Settings
- Select Preferences
- You will see the available notification types arranged in categories. For each type, you have the ability to customize delivery methods.
- We recommend leaving the system notifications unchanged for the global categories such as Account Settings, Schools and Districts, and School Onboarding. For most users, this will ensure that you do not miss any important information about your account.
- Depending on your communication preferences and the number of new Kudos published by your school, you may want to adjust preferences for Kudos. New Kudos in a school or district you are subscribed to is the specific one that determines where you are notified each time a New Kudos is published.
Notification Subscriptions #
All registered users get account and onboarding notifications. Notifications about Kudos require school subscription (free). By default, you are subscribed to any school or district for which you are a member. To disable or re-enable notifications from any of your schools or districts, follow these steps.
- Mobile View – Select the menu (3 lines). Desktop View – Select your profile (top right corner).
- Select Notification Settings
- Select Subscriptions
- You will see the schools and districts you have joined (on schoolkudos).
- Click the X to the right of any school from which you would like to unsubscribe.
- You will no longer receive any notifications from this school regardless of the other preferences set for all school notifications.
Common Use Cases #
- Parent of student at Lincoln High School.
- Joined Lincoln on schoolkudos.com (which includes all notifications by default).
- Left all notifications unchanged to see great news as soon as it is published for her son’s school.
- Joined East High on schoolkudos because it is the cross-town rival and wants to see Kudos in her feed. She does not want East notifications, so she unsubscribes from East (and stays connected as a member).
- Result – she will see all Kudos from both schools in her feed but will only receive notifications for Lincoln.
- Parent of students at Lincoln High School and Kennedy Middle School.
- Joined Lincoln and Kennedy on schoolkudos.com (which includes all notifications by default).
- Left all notifications unchanged to see great news right away for both schools.
- Result – she will see all Kudos from both schools in her feed and will receive notifications for both as well.
- Neighbor of family at Lincoln High School.
- Joined Lincoln (which includes all notifications by default).
- Prefers minimal email and keeps her inbox cleared.
- Changed notification preferences to receive Kudos notifications on the web but not via email. Keeps up with the great things happening at her local school by visiting schoolkudos.com and checking her feed and web notifications.
